FAQs

  1. How long is the massage program?
    The 556-hour program takes approximately 18 months to complete. The Program electives and Clinic are taken when your schedule permits.
  2. Are courses offered in the evening?
    Core (required) courses are offered in the evening, usually from 7:00 p.m. until 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. Additionally, a daytime section is also available and classes are usually held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  3. What is the cost of the program?
    The cost of the WMTI 556-hour program is approximately $6,579. Costs vary depending upon your choice of electives. If you are attending through COD or JJC please contact the admissions department for program costs.
  4. Do you offer a shorter program?
    The 556-hour massage program is the shortest program that WMTI offers. The 556-hour program meets the Illinois Massage License requirement of 500 hours.
  5. Will I be certified when I finish the program?
    WMTI graduates receive a diploma allowing them to take the National Certification written test to become nationally certified. Certification is required by the State of Illinois licensing act, graduates must be State licensed prior to practicing Massage for income.
  6. When do courses begin?
    The school is on trimesters, courses begin in January, May and September.
  7. What does the application require?
    Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, provide original official transcripts from High School, College or GED; have a one hour massage session from a professional licensed therapist and completion of a form by you and the therapist. You will complete an application provided by WMTI asking basic information. If your application is accepted, you will then have an interview with Admissions staff. Admission requirements are listed in the General Information & Program Policies; you may download the catalog from our web-site at www.wmti.com or call us at 630-739-9684 to request a copy.
  8. Do you offer a massage introduction course so I can see if I would like to become a student in the Massage Program?
    We offer a 3-hour Back, Neck & Shoulders Massage Techniques course. Participants will learn basic skills to massage the area thoroughly and will exchange massages with an instructor present to give assistance. This course is listed in our Continuing Education course schedule available at WMTI or online at www.wmti.com.
  9. Can I transfer Anatomy & Physiology if I took it somewhere else?
    Students are required to complete WMTI's A & P course. It contains valuable information geared toward the Massage profession; it provides specific and relevant information that is not provided in courses offered at colleges.
  10. Can I transfer from another Massage school?
    Once you are accepted at WMTI you may have your previous records reviewed for a fee of $25 per course. Transferability is subject to administrative review. You must have successfully completed the course(s). Materials such as course syllabus, homework, class notes, official massage grade record or transcript etc. should be submitted to the WMTI Administrator for review.
  11. How many students are in a class?
    Lecture classes are generally limited to 20 students and technique classes are generally limited to 12. Technique classes with more than 12 students will have an assistant to help students with their hands-on skills.
  12. Do I need to buy a massage table?
    Yes, the fee of $300 for a basic table is included with enrollment into your first class at WMTI. You may upgrade to a table with more options if you desire through the WMTI Retail Store. Massage tables are on display at WMTI, please contact the retail store at ext. 312 to arrange for an appointment.
  13. Does WMTI offer financial aid?
    The Career Training Loan, sponsored by Sallie Mae, has been designed specifically to help you finance your education. It can be used for any of our courses, including Continuing Education classes. The borrower chooses the loan terms of up to 15 years, giving flexibility in monthly payment options. Never a pre-payment penalty if you choose to pay it off early. You can choose to defer your payments for up to 24 months.
  14. Do you offer grants?
    No, WMTI does not offer grants, however Joliet Junior College has Scholarships available, please contact Michalene Nash at JJC. WMTI has been approved by the Department of Veteran's Affairs under titles 10 & 38 of the U.S. code. We also work with Workforce Development and the Office of Rehabilitation Services.
  15. Can I take off a trimester during my studies?
    Yes, you can miss up to two trimesters and remain an active student, but you must complete a course in your Program in the third trimester to remain active. If you become inactive you must reapply to WMTI.
  16. What is the deadline for applying to the Institute?
    The deadline is three weeks prior to the start of the trimester. Trimesters begin each January, May and September.
  17. Do you have other locations?
    Woodridge is our only location. We are approximately 1-½ miles south of I-55, just off of Lemont road, 5 miles west of I-294 and 1 mile east of 355.
  18. If I go through the College of DuPage or Joliet Junior College are all the courses held in Woodridge?
    Yes, all of the massage courses are held in Woodridge . If you are earning an Associates Degree at one of the colleges, the general education courses are held at the respective Colleges.
  19. Will a counselor help me choose courses?
    The Admissions staff will assist you at your interview. Subsequent assistance is available from the Institute Administrator and from instructors in the courses you are currently taking.
  20. What are Core and Elective courses?
    Core courses are required Program courses that usually run from 4 to 15 weeks meeting once or twice per week. Elective courses can be part of one day, two days or part of a trimester. The number of hours determines the length of time it meets. There are various elective courses offered so that you have a choice of topics to complete your elective hours.
  21. Is WMTI accredited?
    WMTI is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and is an American Massage Therapy Association School Member. The Wellness & Massage Training Institute is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider.
  22. Do you offer any other programs?
    Yes, we offer Reflexology and Spiral Synergy Programs. Brochures are available at the front desk.
