Graduates of the Basic Massage Therapist Program may find employment in places such as sports medicine clinics, health clubs, spas, doctors' offices or may elect to work in private practice setting up their own businesses. This area of study includes a thorough background in massage technique, science and professional studies. Clinical experience and outreach programs provide the opportunity to specialize in a specific unique client population such as athletes or the elderly. Elective courses offer specialization in a particular style of massage. Graduates of the Basic Massage Therapist Program qualify for State of Illinois licensing and are qualified to sit for the National Certification Test given by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Other organizations offer membership, insurance and certification. Advanced Massage ProgramThe Advanced Massage Therapy Program is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of practicing, licensed massage therapists. Through this advanced training, massage therapists will be better able to respond knowledgeably to a wide spectrum of client situations. Experienced Massage Therapy professionals and educators have designed this program based upon their years of experience and study in the field. A blend of science and hands-on practice assures the enhancement of techniques already learned and applied through the basic training received earlier in their career. Therapists select from a variety of elective subjects to round out their education or can concentrate their studies in specific topics to receive certificates in specialized fields of study. Graduates may receive an Associates Degree in Therapeutic Massage from the College of DuPage or Joliet Junior College by completing this program. ReflexologyPracticed since ancient Roman and Egyptian times, Reflexology is the skillful and purposeful manipulation of the soft tissue of the feet and hands. The goals are to improve circulation, normalize body function and reduce stress by stimulating nerve reflex activity throughout the body from sensory receptors located in specific areas of the feet and hands. Our Reflexology program is designed to train accomplished professionals who can respond knowledgeably to a wide spectrum of client situations. Spiral SynergySpiral Synergy is about exploring the relationship between you and all things you interact with. In this healing conversation with the body, the practitioner seeks to engage the self-healing capacities of the body on physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual levels. As their interaction develops, the practitioner and recipient find areas of mutual recognition and together explore belief systems and affirm the ability to change these beliefs based upon new awareness and experiences. The coursework centers on developing one's healing consciousness, listening skills, and abilities to be with another in a non-judgmental, accepting way. After the first introductory course students will be able to use gentle positioning and movements to facilitate balance and comfort. As they accumulate experience in using the techniques of Spiral Synergy, students are encouraged to become more aware of physical and energetic processes and patterns and to educate others about their own self-healing potential. AromatherapyTrue Aromatherapy, the safe, effective and meaningful incorporation of essential oils for therapeutic benefit, is a highly rewarding and lucrative adjunct to any professional bodywork practice. This intensive program is designed for the practicing massage therapist who wishes to achieve a high level of underpinning knowledge and competence in the direct use of essential oils as an addition to their existing or proposed professional practice. Students in this course will purchase and study thirty essential oils and one aromatic hydrolat in detail. Major indications, contraindications, cautions, and precautions are presented with specific reference for sale and effective inclusion in bodywork therapy. Successful completion will prepare therapists to sit for the national
Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) examination leading to a Registered
